FAQ
Reservations
We can’t blame you for falling in love with Maui! Give us a call as soon as you know you’d like to extend your stay, and if your vehicle is available, we will gladly extend the rental for you. Note that our rentals run by 24-hour period, and there is a $12/hour charge for additional hours (after the one-hour grace period). Note that rental extensions are not guaranteed and depend on vehicle availability at the time of request.
We highly recommend that you make reservations for campgrounds as soon as you book the campers. Maui is very popular and campgrounds have the tendency to sell out.
We do! Please, do let us know if you want an automatic transmission. Don’t be ashamed to tell us that you’re not able or not comfortable driving a manual—trust us, it’s much less problematic than having to pay for a broken clutch or transmission…
In order to be fair to all interested parties and with the fact that we sell out most of the time, we have to maintain a strict cancelation policy. We charge a non-refundable $250 deposit that is transferred to the balance of your rental. We do understand that situations arise that may force a change in your travel schedule, for this reason, we make your deposit fully transferable. In the event that you need to cancel your reservation, you must provide us a written notification and we will happily place your reservation deposit on hold for up to one year. From there you can choose to reschedule your trip or transfer your deposit to another person. If there is a no show with no communication, we reserve the right to bill for the remainder of the reservation. We are very understanding people and want to help, so please don’t be afraid to call or email us.

If we’re not at the lot when you return the van, you may park in the street, leave the keys in our mailbox, and fill in the check-out form at your convenience. Make sure you park in a legal spot (ie, not where it says “No Parking”, nor within 15 feet/5 meters of the fire hydrant), traffic tickets will be charged to the card on file.
Payment of the full rental period is due upon pick-up of the vehicle, and there is no refund for early returns. If you want to change your dates to shorten your stay, you must do so prior to your scheduled pick-up time.

No. They are all equipped with an Ice Chest.
No worries! There are jumper cables under the back seat, and a screwdriver to open the battery compartment, located under the passenger seat. A service fee may apply to these kind of calls.
For all practical purposes, the vehicle is your property during the rental, and you should treat it with as much care and caution as if it were your own vehicle. Per our rental agreement—which is standard across car rental companies—you are responsible for all damage to, or loss or theft of, the Vehicle, including damage caused by weather, road conditions, and acts of nature, whether or not you are at fault. You are responsible for the cost of repair, or the actual cash retail value of the Vehicle on the date of the loss if the Vehicle is not repairable or if we elect not to repair the Vehicle, Loss of Use, and our administrative expenses incurred in processing the claim. With our insurance, you are only liable for the first $1000 of damages.
NO! If you see a light indicating low oil level, or high temperature, pull over in a safe spot and give us a call as soon as possible.
Pull over in a safe spot, and give us a call as soon as possible. We have 24/7 roadside assistance and will troubleshoot, repair, or replace your van as soon as possible. Please note that depending on where you are located, it might take us a few hours to reach you. Decline any offer from any friendly officer or by-stander to tow your vehicle, as towing must be arranged by us to be covered by the insurance. Note that if you find yourself in one of the travel restricted areas, you are liable for all damages to vehicle, tires, towing charges and other expenses resulting from a breakdown associated with operating in unauthorized areas.
Smoking of anything is not allowed inside the vehicles. Evidence of smoking in the campers will result in a $125 additional cleaning fee.

Camping in Maui
Unfortunately, it is illegal to camp anywhere on Maui that is not a designated campground or private property (with landowner’s permission). But there are plenty of gorgeous, safe, and conveniently located campgrounds around Maui!
Unfortunately, no. Our Westfalia camper-vans are excellent beach cruisers, but do not fare well at high elevations, and may fail you. Practically speaking, this means you can visit the Ali’i Lavender Farm, but not go any higher on Waipoli Road; and you cannot take any portion of Crater Road.
Yes! This is a less travelled, underrated road trip, offering breathtaking views of the coastline and Moloka’i Island. You may drive all the way up the Olivine Pools (mile marker 16), then will have to turn around, however the drive back is even more beautiful. Further on, the road becomes a very narrow one-lane road, with sheer cliffs on one side and no guard rail, making it very treacherous, so our vans are not allowed in this area—just like any other rental vehicle on island. From the other side, you can drive up to Mendes Ranch and Waihe’e Ridge Trail.
Absolutely! Actually, this is the most popular trip people take in our campers. There are three campsites on the way, so you can take your sweet time. Note that the camper-vans—just like all other rental vehicles on island—are not covered on the 7 mile of unpaved section of the road between Kipahulu and Kaupo. This is due to the road’s bad conditions, and it being a very narrow one-lane road in some areas. Please use wisdom when traveling this road.
Most of the campsites around Maui offer outdoor and/or indoor showers (usually cold water). All the County Beach Parks have outdoor cold showers, and the swimming pools have hot showers for use free of charge.
All our campers are equipped with functioning cigarette lighter plugs, so you can bring your USB adapter (we can provide one also). Most of our campers are also equipped with recent audio systems with a USB outlet.
Some campgrounds require no reservations. For those that do, same-day reservations are acceptable. Just note that for Keanae and Waianapanapa, you have to arrange the permit before arrival, as you won’t have cell reception in these areas. More information on our Camping Info Page here.
Maui is one of these places on earth where it’s never too hot and never too cold! It does get a little chilly at nights, especially in the winter, and you will most likely sweat in the hot midday sun, but nothing to be very concerned about. We provide you with blankets, and while our Westies don’t have A/C, there is plenty of ventilation. The vans come with a removable mosquito net, so you can keep the hatch open at night for a nice cross breeze.

Visit our Maui Public Campgrounds page for detailed information on each of Maui campgrounds.
You can actually rent a Camping Kit from us, as well as a Folding Table and Beach Chairs -standard size- at the time of booking.
We do not rent beach gear.
